Welcome to the Eggishorn – the highest of the four major viewpoints in the Aletsch Arena. At 2,869 m a.s.l., you’ll enjoy a spectacular 360° view over the entire Great Aletsch Glacier, the Konkordiaplatz and the famous peaks of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau.

The highest viewpoint in the Aletsch Arena

Eggishorn offers the most comprehensive view of the Aletsch Glacier. From the viewing platform, you can take in the roughly 20-kilometre-long river of ice in all its extent – from the upper glacier regions to the striking bends in the valley.

On clear days, the panorama stretches across more than 20 4,000-metre peaks. In addition to the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau, you can also see the Matterhorn, the Weisshorn and other summits of the Valais and Bernese Alps.

360° panorama and photo spot

The viewing platform offers an unobstructed view of the surrounding high-alpine landscape. Panorama panels help you find your bearings and explain the most important peaks, valleys and glacier sections.

The Grand Tour of Switzerland sign provides a special photo spot with views of the impressive glacier world. A visit at sunrise or in the late afternoon offers particularly atmospheric light.

Eggishorn circular trail

A short panoramic circular trail starts right by the mountain station. The path leads through an impressive landscape of rock, ice and alpine vegetation, offering ever-changing perspectives of the Aletsch Glacier.

The circular trail is ideal for visitors who want to experience Eggishorn without a long hike. Due to the high-alpine location, sturdy footwear, warm clothing and sure-footedness are recommended.

Hikes from Eggishorn

Eggishorn is an ideal starting point for various high-altitude hikes in the Aletsch Arena. Popular destinations include Lake Märjelen (Märjelensee), the Fiescherhorli and the Bettmerhorn.

Experienced hikers can link Eggishorn with the Bettmerhorn and Bettmeralp. The trails offer fantastic glacier views almost throughout and lead through a varied high-alpine landscape.

The Aletsch Panorama Trail

The Aletsch Panorama Trail can be perfectly combined with a visit to Eggishorn. Regional hiking route 39 runs from Belalp via Riederalp and through the Aletsch Arena to Bellwald.

The Panorama Trail connects spectacular viewpoints, alpine hiking paths and impressive landscapes between glacier, rock and Swiss stone pine forest. If you continue hiking from Eggishorn, you can experience the high-alpine glacier world and combine your visit with a longer stage towards Bettmerhorn or Lake Märjelen (Märjelensee).

Getting to Eggishorn

Eggishorn is easy to reach from Fiesch. From the valley station in Fiesch, the cable car takes you directly to Fiescheralp. There, guests change to the gondola lift, which runs up to the Eggishorn mountain station at 2,869 m a.s.l.

From the mountain station, it’s just a few steps to the viewpoint. The actual summit of Eggishorn lies slightly above the mountain station and can be reached by experienced mountain hikers via an alpine path.

High-alpine experience

At almost 3,000 metres, weather, wind and temperatures can change quickly. Even in summer, it can be cool on Eggishorn. Warm clothing, sun protection, sturdy footwear and enough drinks are therefore part of the recommended kit.

The viewing platform is not fully accessible. Depending on trail conditions and the weather, some hiking paths may be restricted or closed.

UNESCO World Heritage

Eggishorn lies within the UNESCO World Heritage site Swiss Alps Jungfrau-Aletsch. The viewpoint makes the geological and scenic significance of this region immediately tangible.
