Kreuzboden – the family mountain

Kreuzboden is the ideal starting point for families, walkers, hikers, and nature lovers. The mountain is easily accessible by gondola from Saas-Grund and offers a varied world of experiences with play areas, hiking trails, and an impressive Alpine panorama.

The area is suitable for relaxed outings as well as longer hikes toward Hohsaas, Triftalp, or Saas-Grund.

Kreuzboden Lake

Kreuzboden Lake is located directly at the Kreuzboden mountain station and offers a particularly beautiful setting for a walk or a break. In good weather conditions, the surrounding mountains are reflected in the clear water.

The lake is a popular photo subject and a pleasant place to enjoy the view of the Saas Valley and the surrounding peaks.

Hohsaas and the 18 four-thousand-meter peaks

Hohsaas is located at the foot of Weissmies at around 3,142 m a.s.l. From here, a spectacular panorama of the 18 impressive four-thousand-meter peaks of the Saas Valley unfolds.

The themed trail 18 Four-Thousand-Meter Peaks leads along a roughly 1.2-kilometer circular route through the high-alpine landscape. Information boards and summit markers explain the various mountains and make the impressive view tangible.

The visible peaks include Weissmies, Lagginhorn, Alphubel, Allalinhorn, and the Mischabel chain with Dom, among others.

Hikes and panoramic trails

Between Kreuzboden and Hohsaas, various hiking trails run through an impressive alpine landscape. A popular route leads via the Weissmies Hut toward Hohsaas, offering fantastic views of the four-thousand-meter peaks again and again.

Those who want to take a longer tour can hike from Kreuzboden via Triftalp and other alpine paths to Saas-Grund. Connections toward Saas-Almagell and Saas-Fee are also possible.

Cable car ride from Saas-Grund

The journey takes place in two stages. From Saas-Grund, the first gondola goes to Kreuzboden. There you can transfer to the second gondola to Hohsaas.

The cable cars provide convenient access to both altitude levels. This allows the excursion to be individually designed – with a family stay at Kreuzboden Lake, a hike, or a high-alpine panoramic experience at Hohsaas.

Summer and winter experience

In summer, hiking, mountaineering, family outings, and nature experiences are the focus. Kreuzboden offers relaxed walking paths, while Hohsaas delights hikers with its high-alpine landscape.

In winter, the area transforms into a winter sports paradise with ski slopes, winter hiking trails, and a roughly 11-kilometer toboggan run from Kreuzboden into the valley.

High-alpine experience at Hohsaas

At over 3,000 meters altitude, wind, cold, and sun exposure can be significantly stronger than in the valley. Even in summer, warm and weatherproof clothing, sun protection, good footwear, and sufficient drinks are recommended.

The themed trail at Hohsaas leads through high-alpine terrain. In bad weather, fog, or difficult trail conditions, the hike should be adjusted or postponed.
